– BEANOGRAPHY –

ORIGIN STORY: Shady Lane is our nod to history — and resistance.  Your cup starts in Mataquescuintla, Guatemala, where a Canadian‑owned silver mine ignited protests.  In 2013 the mine’s license was approved despite 98 % of locals opposing it, leading to violent crackdowns and even a declared state of siege .  Out of that struggle grew Café Colis Resistencia, a movement of Xinca farmers who use coffee to fund their peaceful resistance and secure fair prices .  Our current lot comes from Hugo René García, who at age 15 returned to resurrect his grandparents’ farm.  He farms without pesticides or triazoles, emphasising soil health, weed control and shade to mimic a biodiverse forest .

THE FLAVOURS: This “light dark roast” bridges past and present.  Expect mild acidity reminiscent of cooked apples and pears, backed by cocoa and cooked sugar .  It has a big body and a long finish that layers milk chocolate, caramel, rich spice and apple sweetness .  It’s a comforting cup with a radical heart.
