BEANOGRAPHY
Magnolia is our new-school espresso: bright where it should be bright, floral where it should be floral, and held together by a sweetness that gives the whole cup grace. It is lively, yes, but never brittle. The energy here feels cultivated rather than forced.
Kanji Lalji Estate has been part of Tanzanian coffee history since 1956, but the coffee in front of you belongs just as much to renewal as it does to inheritance. About a decade ago, the estate entered a period of serious rebuilding. Old coffee trees were removed. Soils were restored. The 165-hectare farm was replanted with a long view toward better yield, stronger quality, and healthier agricultural systems. At the same time, investment in improved processing — including the installation of an eco-pulper — helped sharpen the clarity and consistency now associated with the estate.
That patient work is legible in the cup. Magnolia opens with citrus sparkle and melon sweetness, then unfolds into florals and praline warmth. There is a sense of lift here, but also polish. It tastes like a coffee that has been thought through from root to roast.
Magnolia is a love letter to coffee — to bloom, to sweetness, to those radiant crops that seem to arrive carrying their own light. Kanji Lalji makes that feeling tangible. It is a coffee of brightness, but also of intention.

PROCESSING METHOD
Fully Washed
In the fully washed process, the skin and pulp are removed before the coffee is fermented, washed, and dried, creating a more controlled post-harvest environment around the seed. This changes fermentation behaviour, moisture movement, and metabolite development in ways that often favour clarity and structural precision. During roasting, those preserved or modified precursors are transformed through Maillard chemistry and related thermal reactions, helping generate the volatile and non-volatile compounds that shape the cup’s acidity, transparency, and overall balance.
